Music Monday: Marina and The Diamonds (6.11.12)

Twenty-six year old Marina Diamindis is another jewel in the British indie pop sensation.

The brunette turned blonde Welsh born singer has been paving her way into the music scene since 2005. However, it wasn’t until 2008 that she was discovered by music recruiter Derek Davies and booked to open for Gotye on tour. Signed by 679 Recordings, her debut single dropped in October of that year.

Marina and The Diamonds debut album, The Family Jewels was released in 2010.

In 2011, the band was a support act in the U.S. for Katy Perry’s “California Dreams Tour”.

Earleir last year, Diamindis announced that her sophomore album, Electra Hearts would be coming out this summer. (It will be available on July 10 in the US.) Diamindis reportedly said that this album focused on female sexuality, feminism and a plethora of themes surrounding American ideologies.

With friends like Ellie Goulding and Clare Maguire on her side, Marina and The Diamonds won’t be another ruby sinking to the bottom of the ocean in a treasure chest.

You can catch Marina and The Diamonds this summer as the opener for a few of Coldplay’s U.S. shows on their “Mylo Xyloto Tour”!
