Music Monday: Real Estate (7.2.12)

Lately, New Jersey’s reputation has been improving and this band is another reason why. Hailing from Ridgewood, New Jersey, indie-rock band Real Estate formed in 2009. The band has undergone a few member switches as of last year, but new and old, the current lineup is Martin Courtney (vocals, guitar), Matt Mondanile (guitar), Alex Bleeker (bass), Jackson Pollis (drums) and Jonah Maurer (keyboard, guitar).

Real Estate’s first album, Real Estate, came out in 2009. In 2011, the band released their second album, Days, which received a raging 8.7 rating on Pitchfork. If I wrote my on album review, I would definitely give them 4.5/5 stars. The album is calm and collected with beautiful guitar tones, soothing vocals, and light, easy drumming. Every song puts me in a happy trance.

In addition to touring, Real Estate had the honor of playing at Coachella this year, attracting an even larger fan base. This is a band that could not have been introduced to me during a better season. I highly recommend buying or downloading Real Estate’s music A$AP.
