Music Monday: Sleigh Bells (7.16.12)

I have been saving this post for quite some time now…no more waiting around! Alexis Krauss (vocals) and Derek Miller (guitar) are the duo behind the Brooklyn, NY based “noise pop” band, Sleigh Bells. They’re one of the hottest acts in the game of musical chairs now. In February they were featured in GQ and performed on SNL.

Sleigh Bells’ debut album, Treats came out in 2010 and was rated 8.7 on Pitchfork. This past February, they released their follow-up album, Reign of Terror and it is considered one of the best albums of 2012. My favorite songs from both albums are “Rill Rill”, “Born to Lose”, “Infinity Guitars”, “Comeback Kid”, “Crown On The Ground”, “End of The Line”, and “Never Say Die”. I dig everything about Sleigh Bells’ sound- it’s like nothing I have ever heard before. Every song sounds different and you can tell that Krauss and Miller have been influenced by musicians from a variety of eras and genres.

Sleigh Bells is currently on tour in the US of A- unfortunately, I have to miss their Philly show on Friday because is clashes with the Firefly Festival. If you have the time and the funds, I insist that you go out and see them. (During my spring semester at AU, they sold out their 9:30 club show months in advance.) On Sunday, June 22, Sleigh Bells will be performing at Merriweather Post Pavilion, which is HUGE. See them now in smaller venues while you still can before they blow up even bigger!
