Did you know that there’s a TLC movie in the works?
Brought to you by VH1, ”Crazy Sexy Cool: The TLC Story” will tell the story behind the legendary female hip-hop/R&B trio from the 90s that ended too soon. Keke Palmer (Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas), Rochelle Aytes/Lil Mama (Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes), and Drew Sidora (Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins) will star in the TV film.
A staff writer from the New York Post stated that, “It’s time for a new generation to re-discover hip-hop’s best-selling girl group”. Personally, I don’t think that anyone needs to re-discover anything- this film is a tribute to one of the greatest hip-hop groups of all time that never got to fully take advantage of their success due to tragic circumstances and financial problems. (Yes, I have watched their “Behind The Music” episode on more than one occasion.)
Of course, the biopic will focus on TLC’s rise to fame, but don’t go chasing waterfalls unless you’ve got a box of tissues on deck! This film will probably stir up all the emotions. The resemblances to the originals is almost frightening, and the absence of Left Eye still feels like a fresh wound.
In US Weekly’s coverage of the film, Watkins and Thomas discussed the possibility of moving forward and recording music together again. Both surviving members are looking forward to the release.
“Crazy Sexy Cool: The TLC Story” is scheduled for release this fall or winter.
